Steve founded DANZIG Counseling Services to help people of all ages live richer, fuller, more joyful lives. He believes that caring therapy nourishes the body, mind, and spirit.

Steve is a licensed master social worker, a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, and a certified clinical supervisor. He is also certified in "Deep Memory Processing" regression therapy and is a Reiki Master Teacher. Steve is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.

Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Maine and his Master of Science degree in Clinical Social Work (with a minor in Mental Health) from Boston College. He also spent several years studying with world-renowned Jungian analyst, Roger J. Woolger, Ph.D.

Steve stays current with the latest research in mental health and addiction counseling as well as some alternative therapy modalities. He has developed a holistic, comprehensive approach to therapy by combining treatment philosophies that are customized to the unique needs of each client.

In addition to providing outpatient counseling services, Steve is also available for interventions and speaking engagements in Maine, New England, and the Northeast.

For professionals working in the fields of social work and/or alcohol and substance abuse, Steve offers continuing education trainings and clinical one-on-one or group supervision services.

Steve has extensive educational and practical experience in every area of mental health counseling. He truly enjoys helping individuals, couples, and families work through their emotional, psychological, and spiritual issues. Steve is also an expert in the field of alcohol and substance abuse counseling. He works with anyone whose life is being affected by their own or by someone else's alcohol/drug use.

Prior to founding DANZIG Counseling Services, Steve worked for many prestigious mental health and alcohol/substance abuse facilities in Maine including: Mercy Hospital, Spring Harbor Hospital, SMART Child & Family Services, Serenity House (a halfway house for men) and Day One's residential alcohol/drug treatment center for teens. Steve also worked in the social services department at Windham High School.

Due to a desire to help people who might not otherwise have access to his services, Steve is involved in many volunteer activities. He authors various self-help articles appearing in the local newspapers. Steve collaborates with many local civic organizations in their efforts to educate the community about drugs and alcohol. He provides pro bono motivational speaking services to the students in the Raymond, Windham, and Westbrook school districts. Steve also sits on the Raymond Mentoring Program Board. In the past, Steve has also volunteered at several non-profit organizations dedicated to helping teens (including the Preble Street Teen Center), to helping couples strengthen their relationships (through the Engaged Encounter program), and to helping men recovering from alcohol and drug abuse (via his seat on the Serenity House Board of Directors).

In his free time, Steve enjoys riding (and customizing) his Harley Davidson. He also enjoys fly-fishing, camping, and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Steve lives in the Sebago Lake Region with his wife, Jennifer and their three children, Declan, Brogan, and Moira.

Tim McBrady
LPN, LADC, CCS

Tim joined DANZIG Counseling Services when it first opened its doors because of the agency's commitment to helping people whose lives are being affected by their own or someone else's alcohol and drug use. Throughout his career, he has seen how devastating alcoholism and drug addiction can be to lives of the user as well as to everyone in the user's life - family, friends, and co-workers. Tim believes that outpatient alcohol and substance abuse counseling can not only help heal the wounds inflicted by past addictive behaviors but also reduce and even prevent future devastation from occurring. He helps his clients assess the depth of their addiction, works with them on a treatment plan, and gives them tools to strengthen their family relationships.

Tim's approach to therapy is client-centered. He believes that the counseling relationship works best when it is built upon mutual respect. Tim empowers his clients by focusing on their inner strengths and by helping them to set realistic, achievable goals for themselves. He encourages his clients to participate in all aspects of their treatment process. Tim understands the unique recovery issues facing chemically dependent adult men and has extensive experience working with that population. He also has a special interest in working with impaired medical professionals such as doctors and therapists.

In addition to providing outpatient alcohol and substance abuse counseling at DANZIG Counseling Services, Tim is also on the faculty at the InterCoast Career Institute where he teaches students in the Medical Assistant and Alcohol & Drug Counseling Programs.

Tim is a licensed practical nurse, a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, and a certified clinical supervisor. He is also the chairman of the Maine State Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors. In addition, Tim spent 13 years as a member of the Maine State Board of Nursing.

As a nurse and a therapist, Tim brings a unique blend of professional skills to his counseling practice. He began his career in nursing and worked for several local hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics at the Westbrook Community Hospital Flex Care Program. In 1988, Tim entered the chemical dependency field. Two years later, he joined the staff at Serenity House, a residential treatment facility in Portland for adult men with alcohol and substance abuse issues, where he spent 15 years until he resigned from his position as their Program Director.

Tim received his formal education from the Southern Maine Vocational/Technical Institute and the University of Maine in Augusta. In pursuit of specialized education in the field of alcohol and substance abuse, he then went on to study at the New England School of Addiction Studies, the New England Advanced School of Addiction Studies, the Rutgers University School of Alcohol & Drug Studies, and the Rutgers University Institute of Addiction Studies.

In his free time, Tim is active in his local community theater and is a self-proclaimed "wicked theater buff". He is a lifelong resident of South Portland where he and his wife, Cindy, have lived for the past 30+ years. Tim is the proud father of three grown children and a doting grandfather to three grandsons and a granddaughter. When he isn't working or acting, Tim and his wife love to spend time with their ever-growing family.
